Lee,Martinez to LA possibly for loney, kershaw/billingsley

The Dodgers and Indians are in serious discussions about a blockbuster that would send left-hander Cliff Lee and catcher Victor Martinez to Los Angeles for first baseman James Loney, one of the Dodgers' young starting pitchers and prospects, according to major-league sources.

The deal still faces significant obstacles due to the number and nature of players involved, one of the sources said. But the Dodgers clearly are not content with their club, even though they have built a wide lead in the NL West and the best record in the National League.

If the deal occurs, the Dodgers would control Lee and Martinez not only for the rest of this season but also for all of 2010. Both players are under affordable club options for next season, increasing the Dodgers' willingness to pay a steep price.

Martinez presumably would play first base for the Dodgers, replacing Loney. Lee would replace either left-hander Clayton Kershaw or right-hander Chad Billingsley — it is not known which the Dodgers would part with in the package — giving manager Joe Torre the more experienced starter that he covets.

This rumor has been out there for a couple of days. There isnt a chance that the Dodgers give up Kershaw in any deal. Not for Lee, not for Halliday. He is untouchable in my opinion.

Billingsley and Loney for Lee and Martinez makes some sense for the Dodgers on paper but I cannot see them actually pulling the trigger on the deal. They have a huge lead and it simply doesnt make sense to possibly disrupt that chemistry and trade 2 young stars for guys they would only control thru 2010.
Honestly this makes no sense for them at all....so I really hope it happens.
Im down to have billingsley gone so timmy has less compo with the cy young :)
Though it won't happen, I'd much rather see that Kershaw gone.
This got shot down right away. Both teams denied that it was even a possibility.
