Pirates And Mariners Make Seven Player Deal
By Tim Dierkes [July 29 at 11:45am CST]

11:45am: Kovacevic says the Mariners acquire Wilson and Ian Snell for Clement, Ronny Cedeno, Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin and Nathan Adcock.

The prospect the Pirates received are evaluated here.

Add in Clement who was a 1st rounder in 2005 and has yet to receive any time at catcher it seems that the Pirates really didn't get much here. Clement most likely has to play 1st in the majors and is really better suited to DH.

The pitchers aren't worth the potential of Snell who may blossom at Safeco.

Barnes for Garko was more fair than this so we should try to get over on the Buc's too.

Also V Mart is availabe too? Still worth persueing.

Brett Lorin - S - Pittsburgh Pirates Free Agent Wednesday Jul. 29, 2009
Pirates acquired RHP Brett Lorin and three other minor-leaguers from the Mariners for RHP Ian Snell and SS Jack Wilson.
Lorin, 22, was 5-4 with a 2.44 ERA and an 87/25 K/BB ratio in 16 starts for Single-A Clinton. For a guy who stands 6-foot-7 he boasts an underwhelming fastball, but youth is on his side and he's been fairly effective during his short minor league career. Jul. 29 - 1:26 pm et

Victor Martinez - C - Cleveland Indians raddude (Active) Wednesday Jul. 29, 2009
SI.com's Jon Heyman said on WFAN Wednesday that "It's looking like the Indians are going to trade Victor Martinez" in addition to Cliff Lee.
There's no word on any specific deals, but Heyman indicates that the Red Sox and Rays are leading the pursuit of Martinez, with the Indians looking for top pitching prospects in return. Source: metsblog.com Jul. 29 - 1:23 pm et

Roy Halladay - S - Toronto Blue Jays Flydrop (Active) Wednesday Jul. 29, 2009
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that "the Yankees are still showing no inclination" to pursue Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee via trade.
GM Brian Cashman has reportedly asked the Blue Jays about Halladay and inquired with the Indians about Lee, but the Yankees don't appear to be inclined to make any significant increase to their payroll for now. Source: New York Post Jul. 29 - 1:18 pm et

Nathan Adcock - S - Pittsburgh Pirates Free Agent Wednesday Jul. 29, 2009
Pirates acquired RHP Nathan Adcock and three other minor-leaguers from the Mariners for RHP Ian Snell and SS Jack Wilson.
Adcock, a 6-foot-5 21-year-old, was 5-7 with a 5.29 ERA and a 71/54 K/BB ratio in 19 starts for Single-A High Desert. He's obviously a long way from the majors and probably won't ever make it as a starter. Jul

Cliff lee is now a Phillie.

Ben Francisco also wen (iIthink) so I was right they wanted to bring up La Porta too.

The Phill's now also have way too many outfielders too with Werth, Victorino, Ibanez and Francisco.

I say we push to get Rodrigo Lopez from them this weekend.

Maybe we can get Francisco too, with Lewis and another prospect thrown in.

I would like then to get Garko's input on Francisco but he's an intriguing combo of power/speed
SI.com's Jon Heyman says the Giants are in serious talks for Sanchez. The teams are discussing John Bowker, Kevin Frandsen and Jesus Guzman. -- from MLBTradeRumors.com
I just heard the Sanchez is most likely a Giant and should be announced after the game tonight...heard that on the Radio..
yeah heard the same , its on mlbtraderumors.com now

2:04pm: Joel Sherman of the New York Post hears that the Giants are "definitely getting Freddy Sanchez." The Pirates already traded Jack Wilson today, so they could conceviably lose their entire double play combo in one day.
I hope that guzz, bowker or frandsen are the main components! Nothing rape
sabean!!!!!
yay if those are the players involved. It would be great to see us not get outsmarted by another gm.

I really hope we don't lose any good prospects. Also, I don't like bringing in a guy in a slump, to help out our slumping team. I hope it helps though! We'll see tonight if we get him.
if that's all we are giving up then I want Sanchez!

That will be a great great trade for us. I still want Pitt to pay at least couple millions towards next year's salary.

Greedy much?
CSNBA is reporting that the trade is on hold because the Giants still aren't sure about the severity of Sanchez' knee.
they better not **** it up and sanchez gets traded to another team.
Wait, so what will Freddie's nickname be if we already given the "Dirty" to Jonathan?

I already said Fast Buck Freddie after the Jefferson Starship Song.

The Giants made him get 2 MRI's on his meniscus. Wiating results before finalizing deal

I really think we should let him get here do something before nicknaming him.

Work on one for Garko for now.

Freddy Sanchez - 2B - Pittsburgh Pirates Sultans (Active) Wednesday Jul. 29, 2009
Freddy Sanchez had his injured left knee examined by Giants' doctors on Wednesday.
There were no significant issues found, but it remains to be seen if the Giants and Pirates will work out a deal for the infielder. The latest indicator that a trade could be coming soon is that Sanchez has received permission to spend Thursday's off day at his home in Phoenix, so that if he gets traded to a West Coast team he'll already be in the vicinity. Freddy Sanchez - 2B - Pittsburgh Pirates Sultans (Active) Wednesday Jul. 29, 2009
Freddy Sanchez reportedly made a counter-offer to the Pirates for a new three-year contract on Tuesday.
That offer of course took place prior to the team dealing his close friend Jack Wilson to Seattle, so Sanchez's outlook may have since changed. The Pirates have talked to the Giants about a deal, but any trades involving Sanchez could be stalled because of lingering concerns over his left knee. Like everyone already said, getting Sanchez for that price is awesome...I think Guzman is the only guy we don't know about.
