They're talking about Bowker, Frandsen, Guzman in return instead of prospects...Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you The Pittsburgh Pirates.

I have no problem with trading any or all of those guys. They are all fringe players and doubtful that any will ever be anything more. Lets hope thats the cost!!!

Hopefully they let him playout the string all the way to the deadline and make the Pirates sweat bullets over the 8 mil.
Those guys mentioned show how desperate they are. I bet we can get him after the waiver period and give nothing and they will start some limiting of his at bats so the option doesn't kick in. It's clear they're taking out the trash. Make them pay if were sunset scavenger.
Did you read that article from their GM about the signing and being "commited to good young players" well he's 30, and they already dealt Nate Mcclouth (younger/better). This reeks of damaged goods.
The price will only go down because no one is looking to add that position/payroll number without making a bigger difference over the last 2 months.
Then they''ll see him flail away for two more games and Eugenio and and Uribe can try to take him out hard and end all this scary speculation.
I would only want Sanchez if they pay 1/2.

I seriously doubt that the Pirates would agree to pay 1/2 his salary. The know that the Giants are desparate and that Sabean will give in especially if he just has to give up guys like Frandsen, Bowker, and Guzman. We will see. I think I trust you more than Sabean. LOL

The let them pay the end of this year at least. Then if we fall out we can try to limit the at bats so the option isn't a problem. I just would rather not mortgage 8 mil next year if the revenue remains down.
I don't even think he's that bad a player just not that good and NO upside. If we have him next year let's try and control the cost.
We can't afford ot overpay anyone else.

Yeah, but what happens if we do limit his at bats and at the end of the year when we're trying to sign him to an extension he holds it against us. It could piss him off and backfire.

i'd trade bowker, guzz and frandsen for hiM!! But the trade wouldn't happen till the day the pirates leave and freddy would just stay behind and play against the philies!

Then we cut bait and all we lose is a project player or a 4A type.
No one is paying him anything close to 8 mil in the new economy in 2010 unless they're stuck doing it.
They are trying to Matt Morris/Raj Davis us in reverse.
They will blink if we don't. It's a game of chicken THEY can't afford to lose because the money gun is at their head not ours.
We've proven the ability to survive bloated payroll. It would CRUSH them. They are over the barrel here, not us.
We wait them out and we win, I bet.

Look at these reports and tell me I'm not right about the Pirates.
The 1st is complete doublespeak from their GM about a story from a reliable espn source. Fielding offers my ass.
Then look at the Nat's story how Johnson is worth-less if not worthless cuz Sabean passed at sending them anyone good like Sanchez.
The Pirates are the same team holding cards until the river and drawing dead when the outs they had expired on the turn.
Freddy Sanchez - 2B - Pittsburgh Pirates Sultans (Active) Tuesday Jul. 28, 2009
Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes that the Pirates have no urgency to trade Freddy Sanchez or Jack Wilson.
A team official emphatically denied a report by ESPN's Jason Stark that said the team intended to move Wilson and Sanchez by the trade deadline. "We do not need to move either player, we have not decided that we must move either or both players, and we will not move either player unless we receive appropriate value in return," said the official. Kovacevic asserts that the club may be more interested in fielding offers than pushing them. Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Jul. 28 - 4:26 pm et
Nick Johnson - 1B - Washington Nationals cheese (Active) Tuesday Jul. 28, 2009
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Nationals might have to settle on a trade for Nick Johnson.
"Where does (Washington's) Nick Johnson go now?" one AL executive told Sherman. Johnson's two biggest suitors, the Red Sox and the Giants, decided to go in other directions, with Adam LaRoche and Ryan Garko respectively. Interim general manager Mike Rizzo hoped to get two quality prospects for Johnson, who will be a free agent after the season, but it looks like they may have set their sites too high.
