I think this guy is a decent 1st baseman who has power coming off the bench. He hasn't hit for average, but I think part of that is that he's had so few opportunities to play consistently. I would like to see us keep him. Can't believe they're just going to sell his contract without at least trying to get another MLB player or prospect for him.

Why are the Giants so eager to get rid of Brett Pill?

Probably because he was never going to get much playing time with us. If he had some value with some other MLB teams, the Giants probably would have made some calls or tried to trade him within the league. Hopefully they did their research on that. If no one was interested and you were not going to use the guy, this deal makes sense.
With Brandon Belt, Buster Posey and Michael Morse, it would have been tough for him.

Pill got some extensive playing time with the parent club but never could produce on a regular basis. He's a great minor league player.
Power wasn't the question. Consistency was. If he had put together a nice streak? We wouldn't have gone shopping for Morse and Pill would still be in a Giants uni.
But, uh, he's not because he didn't. Too bad, really. I was pulling for him. All Giants fans were.
