Brian Sabean.. time for a change

I hope that Sabean is fired after this season. It is time for another baseball man to come in and take over the team. Perhaps John Barr is that guy. I think a name that they should really consider is Logan White who is the assistant GM for the Dodgers.

Sabean has failed in my opinion on the trade front and in his free agent signings. Affedlt was a good sign but we can go back and list the multitude of overpriced and underperforming players that Sabean signed. He has put this team together and has failed to draft and develop young hitters in this organization. HE MUST GO! His drafts have improved however much of that credit has to go to John Barr and it certainly is easier when you have a top 10 spot to draft from.

My fear is that Sabean is going to try to save his job by trading for an established hitter at the expense of a top prospect. I am glad that Neukom is in charge because I dont think that he will allow that to happen but it still scares me. I have never trusted Sabean and certainly do not now.

The Giants would be smart to bring in a new GM and a new manager for next year. I do NOT blame Bochy and actually think he has done a good job given the lack of talent he has to work with. Having said that, I think a change is needed to give the team a new fresh start.

I agree with you completely. However, the fact that the Giants have surpassed expecations this season (playoffs or not) means that Sabean and Bochy are both going stick around next year.

Well said.
If John Barr wanted to be a General Manager he would have surely become one years ago. He has a proven track record, but it seems like he doesn't want to take such a position. As for Logan White. I really don't see the need for him since he is a disciple of Ned Coletti, and well, Coletti is a disciple of Sabean. Sure the Dodgers are doing outstanding, but a lot of people in LA want Coletti gone.

Really? You have first hand knowledge of a lot of people in LA wanting Coletti gone? I live in LA and havent read or seen anything to that affect.

As to Logan White.. well he was with the Dodgers long before Colleti and is the main person responsbile for their young talent:

"Prior to this season, White served as the Director of Amateur Scouting for the Dodgers for five seasons. In that role, he headed up the draft selections of seven players who appeared in the Major Leagues for the Dodgers last season - Chad Billingsley, Jonathan Broxton, Russell Martin, James Loney, Matt Kemp, Eric Stults and Delwyn Young. Along with his staff of amateur scouts, White's history of success in the draft, helped lead to the Dodgers being named Baseball America's 2006 Organization of the Year.

White has had unparalleled success in his first five drafts for the Dodgers, as his June 2004 First-Year Player draft was rated by Baseball America as the best draft in the National League and second best in baseball. His 2003 draft was tabbed as the best in the Major Leagues by the publication and his 2002 Draft was rated as the fourth-best draft in baseball. The Dodgers were the only team to have their draft rated in the top five in each of those three seasons. "
Agreed. Time for Sabean to hit the road.

Maybe get Brenly in here???
Sometimes a change of philosophy in an organization is needed. I think Sabean has done a pretty nice job in his years with the Giants, but it does seem the time has come for some new blood at the GM spot. I'm all for the Giants finding a new GM, but so many fans are just wanting to kick him to the curb like he's done nothing for the Giants.

But, it is sports, and what have you done for me lately reigns supreme.
when its time for a change, think speedy oil change and tune up

I agree, Sabean needs to go. Sometimes i wonder how much of the last 2 years draft werre Joh Barr's or B.S. One thing for sure, when John Barr came aboard the draft was alot better.

I wont be surprised if no trades are done.

Sabean YOU NEED TO GO!!..your lame excuses has worn out, "Kicking the tires," Due Diligence"..B.S=Brian Sabean=B**L S***T

Pablo out!

ok, first off, Sabean isnt going to be trading for an impact bat. weve needed one for 7 years, and still nothing. not even one. the Giants love sabean, he isnt fighting for his job. if he kept his job through 2005-2008, theres no reason he should be fired NOW, after our best season since 2004.

and i dont think we really need a new GM. one thing i have loved about Sabean, is he always caters to the fans. whens the last time he made a trade that people were like "Nooooo!! Sabean you dick! that was a great prospect!"

also, whens the last time he let a fan favorite walk away before he was totally done?

he may not wheel and deal for the big players, but overall he does a decent job of drafting and growing a good farm system (ranked 5th in baseball on Baseball America), and then keeping the prospects and turning them into Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain on the big club.

remember when the Jays offered Alex Rios for Lincecum? and fans were actually "thinking" about wanting it?? his instincts for not pulling the trigger just because we needed a bat saved us a CY franchise pitcher.

Sabean can be very annoying at times, but hes one of the better GM's in baseball, and replacing him wouldnt make much sense unless we were in a Pirates type situation, where we had nothing going for us.

LOL at your entire post. Calling Sabean one of the better GM's in baseball is just laughable. He has failed in trades, failed in free agency, and just recently has done better with the draft thanks to having John Barr and drafting in the top 10.

Lets take your points one at a time:
1) He wont trade for an impact bat - we have needed one for 7 years and he hasnt done it.
- UH YA.. DUH He hasnt been able to draft, develop, or trade for impact bats.

2) He caters to the fans
- oh i love this one. WHat a joke. Try catering to the fans by not overpaying for stiffs and making
smart trades. Hmmm.. perhaps you forget that he traded Nathan and Liriano for AJ Pierzynski. Ya..
that was a favorite of all us knowledgable fans

3) Whens the last time he let a fan favorite walk away when he was done?
- HUH? Are you saying that he kept washed up players on the team to make the fans happy???

4) Rios for Lincecum?? Hell.. he almost made that deal. Any truly knowledgable GM would have laughed
the minute that was proposed. That was about Toronto trying to screw an inept GM.

5) Drafting??? He was pathetic for a decade. The Giants did not draft even ONE good hitter in their organization until Posey. The credit now really needs to go to John Barr.

Sorry.. but your post makes about as much as sense as keeping Sabean. I do think its commendable, however, that you choose to defend your GM. His record just isn't defendable.
How about a new hitting coach??????????
