Looks like only Wheeler and the Mets are donating 4M with the deal. WOW.
So if this comes to pass tomorrow, Due to Beltran being a 10/5 guy it takes 24 hours to complete the deal, What is the lineup?

Torres
Keppinger
Sandoval
Beltran
Schierholtz
Huff
Fontenot
Whiteside

or do Sandoval and Beltran switch and does Belt start over Huff?
so what was the final deal ???

There is only 6 Mil left on his contract. They pay for 4 mil, we pick up the rest for the year.

Poncho, it this a test ? I thought you were part of the negotiating team. As soon as I heard this was going down, I figured you were the main guy making it happen. The guy figuring out what was best for our Giants. The guy figuring, that Wheeler reached his ceiling, and was worth Beltran for 2 months, so he can help us repeat as World Champs. Wasn't that you ?

It should be Belt over Huff, unless they send Belt down. I mean someone has to be sent down, right ? So, who should it be ? Zito ?
Hopefully this gives the lineup the jolt it needs.
Sounds like Belt is going back to Fresno, Burrell is going be released, and I guess DeRosa is coming back up

Giants Notes: Burrell, Rowand, Beltran, Hernandez
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 27, 2011 at 10:05pm CST]

Before accepting a trade to San Francisco, Carlos Beltran refused to waive his no-trade clause to go to the Pirates, according to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Like the Indians, the Pirates made an aggressive push for Beltran before he headed for Northern California. Here’s the latest on the Giants, as they prepare for a run at a second consecutive title...

Jon Heyman of SI.com suggests that there won't be much room for Pat Burrell and Aaron Rowand in San Francisco (Twitter link). Beltran, Nate Schierholtz, Andres Torres and Cody Ross figure to get most of the playing time in the Giants’ outfield. The Giants are expected to release Burrell to create space on the roster for Beltran.
The Giants aren't discussing an extension for Beltran, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle (on Twitter). The switch-hitter hits free agency after the season and cannot be offered arbitration.
Some Giants people believe the Reds will deal Ramon Hernandez for a pitcher, according to Schulman (on Twitter).

Giants Expected To Release Pat Burrell
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 27, 2011 at 9:37pm CST]

The Giants are expected to release Pat Burrell to create roster space for Carlos Beltran, according to CSNBayArea.com. San Francisco will option Brandon Belt to Triple-A to create space on the active roster for Beltran, who was acquired for pitching prospect Zack Wheeler earlier today.

Burrell, 34, re-signed in San Francisco for $1MM after a strong second half to the 2010 season helped carry the Giants to the World Series. Burrell hit .266/.364/.509 with 18 homers last year, but his production has fallen off in 2011. The former first overall pick has a .233/.342/.419 line with seven homers this season. If the Giants release him, he'll be available for a pro-rated portion of the MLB minimum, just as he was a year ago.

Giants To Acquire Carlos Beltran
By Tim Dierkes [July 27, 2011 at 3:33pm CST]

The Giants have the worst offense of any National League contender, so today GM Brian Sabean pounced on the best hitter available. The Giants and Mets reached a tentative agreement that will send right fielder Carlos Beltran and $4MM to San Francisco for pitching prospect Zack Wheeler, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.

Beltran (pictured) is hitting .289/.391/.513 with 15 home runs in 419 plate appearances, in what has already become his healthiest season since 2008. Signed by the Mets to a seven-year, $119MM free agent contract before the 2005 season, Beltran's agent Scott Boras negotiated a clause preventing his team from offering arbitration at the deal's conclusion. Such an offer was no sure thing anyway, with Beltran earning $18.5MM this year. About $6.5MM of that remains, of which the Mets are assuming $4MM. Since Beltran has 10-and-5 rights, the trade will not become official until tomorrow. The Braves, Red Sox, Rangers, Indians, and Phillies had also been involved in trade talks for Beltran.

Wheeler was a big price to pay for two months of Beltran's services. The Giants' sixth overall pick in the 2009 draft, the hard-throwing righty has a 10.0 K/9 in High-A ball this year. The consensus among Keith Law, Baseball America, and Kevin Goldstein is that Wheeler is among the top 36 prospects in the game.

Tim Brown first reported the deal, with Buster Olney and Joel Sherman adding details.

Giants To Acquire Carlos Beltran
By Tim Dierkes [July 27, 2011 at 10:00am CST]

3:11pm: The Giants and Mets have reached a tentative agreement on a Beltran trade, report Rosenthal and Morosi.

2:27pm: The Mets will pay $4MM of the $6MM remaining on Beltran's contract, an executive not directly involved with the trade tells Sherman. The number is confirmed by ESPN's Buster Olney (Twitter link).

1:30pm: If nothing happens in the next 24 hours to scuttle the deal, it's just Wheeler for Beltran and cash, tweets Sherman. The Mets are sending a significant amount of money, tweets SI's Jon Heyman.

12:45pm: Olney tweets that Giants pitching prospect Zack Wheeler is expected to be the centerpiece in the trade, and Jon Paul Morosi agrees.

12:17pm: Carlos Beltran is going to the Giants, tweets Yahoo's Tim Brown, with logistics being worked out. Just minor details remain, tweets SI's Jon Heyman. ESPN's Buster Olney tweets that the two teams are at the one-yard line, while Brown reminds us that a 24-hour waiting period applies since Beltran has 10-and-5 rights. The Phillies are just barely hanging on for Beltran, according to multiple reports.
Sad to see burrell being let go, and Belt being sent down. Not sure why Belt is even brought up, since he never gets to play.

If Burrell is not retiring, I think the Phils will be calling soon, and he will might us in the playoffs. Not a good thing.
I hope Burrell accepts an offer from someone and does well. He is a strike out machine but such a great clubhouse guy.

BTW. Beltran in the lineup today. HOPEFULLY
a twist.

Giants Designate Bill Hall For Assignment
By Tim Dierkes [July 28, 2011 at 11:23am CST]

The Giants designated infielder Bill Hall for assignment to open a roster spot for newly-acquired Carlos Beltran, tweets Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Hall, 31, hit .158/.220/.211 in 41 plate appearances for the Giants, playing mostly second base. He'd been released by the Astros previously after signing a $3MM contract in December.
