I was just looking through the player stats in our minor league affiliates and was wondering if any of you could expand on some of the stats I noticed.
1) Angel Villalona is only hitting .267 in single A. Is this attributed to his youth?
2) Who the hell is Brock Bond? The guy is hitting .345 in AA (although no power numbers)
3) Is Thomas Neal legit? He's tearing it up down in A. Good power numbers too.
4) MadBum's stats are impressive. Alderson's too, yet not as striking.
5) Jesus Guzman's numbers look good in AAA. Can we find a position for him?
6) Nothing stands out with the numbers of Gillespi and Noonan. Well Gillespi's are pretty decent, but Noonan's aren't very impressive. Have these guys' stocks fallen a bit?

YES.. He is a teenager. He needs time but has big time ability!

He has progressed every year from rookie to A to AA. No power but decent speed. 24th rd pick

Baseball America just had article on him. Big time power and cutting his K's down. Time to send him to AA to see how he does at a better level of competition. 21 years old. I am hopeful for him.

Alderson is not the K pitcher that Bumgarner is and never will be. He projects as a 3-4 type of guy. He is also very young and progressing better than I think the Giants would have imagined.

Doubt it. Defensive liabilities make him better suited for an American League team. I really dont think he is in the Giants plans to tell you the truth.

I would say yes.. they have fallen. Gillespie in particular is a concern because he is older and was a solid college hitter. Lack of power for a 3b has to be an issue as well.

Angel is good. He is only 18 so give the kid a break. He should be good. Bumgarner is nasty. I saw him in Single A he is good. I also saw Alderson he is nasty also.

I hate to inflate Angel's stock, but Pujols didn't have staggering Minor League numbers before he got the bigs. We all saw what happened after that. The only thing that concerns me about Villalona is his weight. Makes me wonder how much better these guys could be if they controlled their diets.
Adding to what GiantJohn said...
Angel has a lot of growing up to do, but he's 18 so he has time. One of things to look out for in the lower leagues is K/BB ratio. His aren't very good...which means he still has a lot to learn in terms of pitch recognition.
Brock Bond projects as a utility midfielder to me (mainly 2b-ss) if he even gets up that far. Having a good year though, but no pop whatsoever.
Thomas Neal actually was fairly impressive when he started out. He had a poor K/BB ratio but has improved on that greatly. One of things to note is he actually missed all of 2007 out of injury. But this guy has a ton of potential and should end the year as one of the best prospects in the minors. In fact, he's already there.
Alderson projects as a #4 guy. If that.
Guzman should be in the AL.

Bumgarner: mainly fastball pitcher who can throw mid 90s and is working on a curveball that is coming along nicely
Alderson: he is a control type pitcher good curve and a low 90s fastball that he can spot on the black
villalona: huge potential, everybody was trying to sign him. He had the record at the time for biggest signing bonus. Projected to be a number 3 or 4 hitter
Posey: gap hitter with some power great behind the dish and decent speed. Career .300 type
Noonan: contact hitter with decent glove and speed
Gillaspie: supposed to be a contact hitter but I've never been big on him
Gillispie has made like 19 errors already. Roger Kieshnick is tearing single A pitching up along with Thomas Neal.Brian Bocock has been on fire lately also. Our farm system is loaded.

Thomas Neal update. Got to believe he will be promoted to AA soon:
No. 5 THOMAS NEAL, LF
GIANTS
Team: high Class A San Jose (California)
Age: 21
Why He's Here: .400/.471/.767 (12-for-30), 2 HR, 5 2B, 7 RBIs, 10 R, 3 BB, 6 SO, 3-for-3 SB
The Scoop: The No. 1 prospect on this list a week ago, Neal has been on fire of late. Over the past two weeks, he's gone 22-for-53 with eight doubles, one triple and three home runs. On the season, he's now up to .350/.435/.625, while leading the Cal League in average and doubles (32). His slugging percentage ranks third best in all of the minors' full-season leagues. While the Cal League is a hitter's paradise, Neal has hit well both at home and on the road and against both righties and lefties.
Neal was drafted in the 37th round in 2005 out of Poway High School, and is considered the 23rd prospect in the Giants’ organization, according to Baseball America.
Anybody have a list of BaseballAmerica's rankings for the Giants?

Crzy.. ask and you shall receive. This list was Baseball America's top 10 for the Giants before the season started. If that list was compiled now there would be changes obviously
1. Madison Bumgarner, lhp
2. Buster Posey, c
3. Angel Villalona, 1b
4. Tim Alderson, rhp
5. Nick Noonan, 2b
6. Ehire Adrianza, ss
7. Conor Gillaspie, 3b
8. Rafael Rodriguez, of
9. Scott Barnes, lhp
10. Sergio Romo, rhp
My top 10 list now:
1) Bumgarner
2) Posey
3) Alderson
4) Villalona
5) Wheeler - yes before he has even pitched a game
6) Neal
7) Kieschnick
8) Barnes
9)Rodriguez - any teenager from Domincan that gets over 2 million better be on the list
10) Adrianza
I think Noonan and Gillespie have been disappointing and would be off this list now.

Good knowledge
What about Kevin Pucetas he is currently 10 - 2 with a 3.22 era in TRIPLE A. He should be on that list. Call me crazy but I think Thomas Neal and Roger Keischnick may turn out to be better than Buster Posey. Well like I said that's just my opinion. On a side note our third round pick in this years draft Chris Dominguez could be the steal of the draft.
