Trade Season

boras might be the anti christ
Sabes is sure taking his sweet time while the Giants flail.
It's time to do something NOW sabean!!!
so the cards want holliday
can u imagine pujold/holliday as ur 3-4
i wont be surprised if no trades are done. Bill Nukeee was on KNBR last week it seems that he has a built in excusse written all over on what he says..." We dont want to loose are top prospect", " I like the team now.."

IMO if you read between the lines, If we go on loosing streak= well we're still rebuilding and we overachieved this year...If the team goes on a winning streak= why do we need a bat?!!!..we need our prospects for the future...

Pablo Out!

I still think Adam Dunn would look great in our lineup he's only on a 2yr 20 mil contract and playing for the terrible Nationals who would probably just give him away. His line of .268 .401 .542 .943 is great plus hes got 24 HR, 63 RBI and 73 walks. A legit clean up hitter is worth a few dropped pop flies and he would look sweet hitting 4th between Pablo and Bengie.

The nats said dunn wasn't on the block so it would probably take a lot to get him. Especially with how much he is making. What about tanner, noonan for sanchez
I would like to get Adam Dunn and Freddy Sanchez.

People seem to be afraid to give up too much for a hitter. That's why I have proposed going after guys like Jose Guillen or Magglio Ordonez -- obviously they have their flaws/risks but that is why they could be acquired cheaper than Holliday, F.Sanchez, etc.

I'd also be in favor of trying for Aubrey Huff because he has the versatility to play 1B, 3B and OF.

I think we'll make some kind of move for a bat, but I'm not expecting a big name.

Jose guillen has a ridiculous contract and he even said he wants to buy tickets for fans cause he is playing so poorly
I think the Nats will entertain some type of offer. They had scouts in Conn. yesterday. If the Nats are going 'fire sale', then the Giants need to focus on Zimmerman rather than Dunn.

Freddie Sanchez is still the best fit for this club right now. Sabes can work a creative deal with the Pirates and still keep the prospects in tact.

There is still 7 days left before the deadline hits. It's a poker game right now. No need to panic.
I would LOVE Zimmerman

no need to image. Cards just signed him.

11:16am: ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports that the deal is complete. The A's will contribute $1.5MM to the remainder of Holliday's salary, which leaves the Cards with about $4.5MM.

There is about as much chance that the Nationals trade Zimmerman as the Giants trading Panda. They control his contract for a few more years until he can get to free agency. The only way they would trade him is to get 2 or 3 top prospects.

Freddy Sanchez is not the great fit that you think. WHat do the Giants really need... POWER! I dont see how it is going to benefit our team to get a punch and judy hitter who will have an 8 million dollar contract next year.

Adam Dunn is a much better call. He could provide a real middle of the order hitter and has another year on his contract at a very reasonable rate for someone who hits 40 homers every year.

I am not a fan of the amount of K's from Dunn. He is the last guy I want at the plate in the 8th, with RISP, and two outs. If I had a nickle for every time he "just missed that one".......

Give me someone who is constantly on base and can get the runners in.

What exactly have you seen from the Giants hitters since the All Star break? A lot of "just missed that one" swings. Having Panda batting third then having Dunn at cleanup followed by Molina would do well for us. Plus I'm sure a change of scenery would do well for Dunn after playing for a team like the Nats.

The question is, if it was a possibility, who would we have to trade for Dunn?

So... you would not have wanted on your team Babe RUth, Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson, and today Ryan Howard? All of these guys struck out a ton. I am NOT saying that Adam Dunn is as good as them but just making the point that K's do not tell the whole story.

What power hitters do, however, is put the fear in the opposing team every time they are at bat. They also drive in a LOT of runs despite their K's. Successful teams have balance. This means having guys who can get on base AND power guys who can change the game with 1 swing. Adam Dunn isnt perfect by any means. IF he was he would be getting $ 25 million per year and be untouchable. However, he is a legit power hitter than could get better pitches for the players around him and make a difference in the lineup. Trust me.. Freddy Sanchez would never make a huge difference in the Giants lineup.

Oh by the way... you want guys who can get on base? Adam Dunn is 11th in all of baseball in on base average as well as 11th in OPS. His on base average of .404 is better than Miggy Cabrera, Texiera, Braun, Sandoval, Morneau, and Ibanez.. just to name a few.
