Are We Buyers or Sellers?

I didn't say he was worthless, I said you aren't going to get anything worthwhile for him. He's a steady, not spectacular hitter and a solid, versatile but again not spectacular outfielder. He's not going to put any potential playoff teams over the top (which is what trades this time of year are all about for the most part, especially for older players) and he's not going to improve any non-playoff teams' future. He's basically a slightly above average player on the downside of his career, and nobody is going to give up any decent prospects for that. Sorry.
yeah make a good point about contenders looking for an upgrade....pray that one of their OF gets hurt and they come calling!!!lol

I agree 100%. No team is going to take Zito or Rowands contract so they are basically untradeable.
As far as Winn and Molina go.. you just wont get much at all for either of them. Randy Winn is marginal at best and no team is going to give up more than a lower tier prospect for him.
we're sellling Sanchez and buying hitting......unless Randy is out for the year.

BILLRING!! *high five*

That would be cool, but again realistically, what are we going to get for him? He's been mostly horrible with the notable exception of the "perfect" game. His trade value was highest before the season, but I guess we thought we had another young stud at the time. Not many people are going to give much, especially not a decent bat, for a guy who is (so far) all potential and minimal production.

touche....

I say we try to get Holiday ONLY if we can sign him to a long term deal first!!
Sign and trade? Unlikely at best...he'd be a fool not to at least test FA as far as the $$ is concerned.

There are sign and trades in baseball? Huh?

Scott Boras is Holiday's agent. He ALWAYS has his clients test the FA market. There is no chance that Holiday would sign a deal with the Giants or any team without testing the FA waters.
neither. we dont need to make any moves. all our players that wed want to deal, nobody wants. and all our players teams want, we shouldnt be dealing.

im kind of glad we came out of the break ice cold. it smacks some sense into the team. we arent good enough to win the WS this year, dont sell the farm youve been building for years and years for a rent-a-hitter. its just plain dumb.

i agree with you.

The problem is they are a year or two behind the curve as far as where the team is in relation to management who are up for new contracts.

That's why the second question is far more important than the first. I doubt the hitter(s) this team would need are available for the price they are willing to pay. La Roche, while an upgrade, wouldn't anchor an order like Holliday and only both would approach sufficiently patching the holes in the Giants lineup.

Laroche didn't come all that cheap and is capable of providing for Boston's current needs, not ours.

What the organization needs to decide is whether Sabean (really) and Bochy (to a lesser extent) did enough with the tools they were given to maximize the win total of the team over the years they were in charge.

The question that needs asking first is "Who is responsible for believing this roster as assembled in spring training including New key contributers Sandoval, Lewis/Schierholtz, Ishikawa, Burriss, Renteria, Uribe, would constitute a competitive Major League squad."

Clearly the fact that not a single one of these players, or anyone else in the so called "EVERYDAY LINEUP" other than Rowand plays the same position or hits in the same spot in the order two days in a row leads you to believe there was a lot of Kool-aid in the club house in Scottsdale.

Add your point that they aren't mature enough to take the same home team on the road and you have basic issues which should have been evident before (while) they were overachieving in the first half.

As the sports cliche goes It is what it is, no matter what you want to see.

I think we are sellers and the only thing we have to sell is no better than a La Roche... Pieces that would help a contender but no one that's a "difference maker"

Your points are well taken. I bring up LaRoche just because his numbers are so glaringly better than anyone on the Giants but Pablo. Do I really want LaRoche? Probably not, but if the Giants want to make a move(s) towards the W.C. this year and not mortgage the future, then its a move that should have been made.

The move that really potentially scares me that I could see the Giants making now that Renteria is hurting and 2b is a revolving door..... is....trading for the Bucs double play duo (Wilson and Sanchez). Now that the Bucs are not going to resign the two. I could see Sabean making a panic move if the boys get swept today and then lose minimum 2 of 3 in Denver, becuase guess who is coming to town on Monday folks......you guessed it, those Pirates who just made our bats look anemic and what better time to pull of a trade with a team who's currently playing in your ballpark. Sabean i feel would give up way too much.

I think its time for Sabean and Bochy to go. Sabean continually signs wahsed up or guys who don't fit into AT&T parks mold. Did he really think Rowand was going to hit 30 bombs after playing in Cracker Jackville in Philly. The defense and the leadership is great, but for 12 million for 5 years? Barry Zito enough said. And now the last year's signing of Renteria for 9 million a year. You have got to be kidding me.

Bochy this guy cannot put out a line-up to give the Giants the best chance to win. First example, the line-up in Pittsburgh the first game back, has Aurilla and Torres starting! What the @#%* is that? His lefty's can't hit lefty's garbage is tiresome. I say if we are going to go young then bring up Decker who has managed a lot of the younger guys and get some youthful enthusiasm on this team instead of the fossil mentality that we have had for the last decade.

One last thing, I think if Holliday's agent was anyone but Boras, he would already be a Giant.

Lets keep our fingers crossed the boys wake up before its too late.
