Constant Failure: The Phil Cuzzi Story

The post I linked to above was referenced in this blog post on USA Today's Daily Pitch.

The whole article talks about how this call is especially terrible because it cost us the game.

How could he miss such a call ? He was looking right at them. After reading all of his other run ins, he should be fired.

The Giants and Mets were not playing against each other, they were playing against phil cuzzi.
He's got to know it was a terrible call when the team that WON is criticizing him too. Basically, he's just had an embarrassing career.
Cuzzi made a tough call even tougher by being out of position. He couldn't see the tag applied and couldn't see the foot touch the plate where he was standing. He should have been at the plate and slightly up 1st base to see if the tag was applied and if the runner touched the plate before the tag.

No plate competent plate Umpire moves out of position to make that call. Cuzzi did it though.

I think the man should be fired not because he was out of position, but because he's got too many of these game affecting calls on his record. For the occasional bad call, so long as you're in the right spot fine, judgement call I get that. But this is insane. I would love to get paid just to show up and see a free game.
