and possible negotiated contract resulting out of solid numbers do to the possibLe return of Noah Lowry?
Johnson will most likely return as a Reliever.
So if Penny works out for us to where he's offered a contract to return, is there room for Noah.
Look at THIS rotation.
Lincecum
Zito
Cain
Penny
Lowry or Sanchez
Hell if it were up to me I would use Lowry as a SP/RP to fill in during injury and the occasional opposite lineup card appearance.
But that would give us what 5 Lefties and Cain? So Lowry is more important as a Reliever next year?

I don't think Johnson would be willing to come back as a reliever.
As for Penny, he'd be great in the rotation, but some other team will probably throw big money (and a longer-term contract) than we could afford. If anything, we would throw money at another bat.
So at the end, if Lowry comes back, there's a spot on the rotation for him.

I don't see how anyone can even mention Noah Lowry right now. Loved him when he played, but the guy is so far removed from the ML that I don't see him making any impact with us.

I'm not counting on Lowry. I think he should pitch a full year at Fresno. I'd much rather see Bumgarner given a chance to win that #5. And if he doesn't, a veteran or Penny (depending on his cost and performance the rest of the way) would be cool with me.
I like Noah, don't get me wrong, I just am not willing to bet on him being a reliable member of the pitching staff right off the bat. He needs to get work in.
Lowry is so gone.
Our rotation is set next year with Shotgun Cain/Lincecum/Zito/Sanchez/5th starter.
The 5th starter can either be Penny or MadBum

Yeah and so is Penny. Ceadderman is showing he knows just as much about baseball as he does about football..

Lowry, sadly, is done as a Giant. This was the final year of his contract. It is highly doubtful the team will take a shot at him after missing 2 seasons.
RJ may come back for another shot but he is 45, I think. He is willing to come back this season in relief. If he does make a couple of appearances and his shoulder is ok he may have one more season in him. But a Torn Rotator is not something that heals on its own. He will probably need surgery to fully repair the tear, if there is even a slight tear.
What to do with Penny. He is a FA. Will he resign with The Giants if we don't bring in a big bat? In order to trade for a big bat, J Sanchez and a player are our best hopes of bringing one in.

This is a funny topic. Please... Noah Lowry? That boy has probably pitched his last game and certainly cant be in any discusstion for a rotation spot let alone a roster spot.
As for RJ.. he would never come back to be some middle inning relief pitcher or lefty specialist. That guy has way too much pride for that. I would bet a large sum of money that he will retire.
Penny.. I doubt the Giants go after him unless it is for a 1-2 yr deal for reasonable money. With Bumgarner coming up and a huge arbitration figure looming for Timmy the Giants are not going to spend crazy for a 5th starter. Wait.. this is Sabean so I guess anything is possible. However, spending big money on a pitcher when we have so many holes at the plate doesnt make a lot of sense now does it.
I would guess that Bumgarner will be given every opportunity to be the 5th starter next year for this team.

My bad on the rightie leftie equation. I should have known that since I mess with it daily on 2k8 and 2k9.
In any case, Johnson has stated that he would be willing to be a reliever. So much for that thought.
Also, this is purely speculation, but Olney has floated the prospect of sending Cain to the Brewers over the Winter for Fielder. Now I'm not sure that I would make such a drastic move with KFP having done pretty well this season, but it's not news that we do need a big bat in the Lineup. So it's possible that this could happen. I am in agreement that Noah needs to get work in to get him back up to speed but he's only getting older so either he's coming back up with us or we get something for him. Which basically was the premise for my question. What do we do with him. Some of you have played fair and I respect your candor regarding Noah. But if Cain IS traded over the Winter(which changes my rotation alignment somewhat) and we still have Noah, what do we do with him.
I've not seen Bumgarner pitch so I'm looking forward to that. But honestly Penny has made a pretty solid contribution to the team. So I would like to see Sabes make a move to keep him with the Gigantes. Whether we can afford him or not remains to be seen. If we don't keep him I feel that he will more than likely return to the Blahdgers after having mended fences there, thanks to us.
Oh and having brought up this idea of Fielder coming to San Francisco, what in the heck happens with Ishikawa? I like the kid and would like to see him succeed, but if we got Fielder(unlikely but possible) that would Travis from becoming an everyday Starter, which I was kind of hoping that he would be.
An yeah typical Leatha. Make a simple mistake an you givin me no raspeck for it. It's all good homie, you don't gotta agree with me at all, typical Gyrine mentality an my raspeck to ya fer it. lol
