after this terrible game against the rockies, does anyone else feel the entire coaching staff (minus dave righetti) and brian sabean should be let go after this season? the giants now have a very difficult task of making the playoffs and personally i do not see them as playoff team.
justin miller has lost it recently, don't know what it is. how do you walk a pitcher with the bases loaded when he wasn't going to swing the bat.
the giants go from being 2 games out of the wildcard and 6 out of the nl west to 4 and 7 which to some may not sound like a lot, but they need a lot to go in the favor to even think about sniffing the playoffs at this point.

IMO, Bochy has to go. His mirco management has cost SF more than a few games this season. Plus he believes in his stupid splits so much players on SF who are bad at facing LHP or RHP never get a chance to improve.
Clearly Sabean's moves (Garko, Sanchez) were done in an attempt to save his job. What I don't get is why Sabean didn't package Barnes AND Alderson and land a top tier hitter. If he was going to start moving pitchers might as well package them and get one impact guy instead of one undersized broke down 2b and a 1b Bochey refuses to play everyday.

I agree that Bochy and Sabean have to go. Keep Carney and Rags along with Tim (The best Third base coach in Baseball) Flannery. I think Mark Gardner has done a good job as the Bullpen coach also. But Bochy and Sabean have mismanaged the young talent, such as it is, on this team long enough. Sandoval aside. What took them so long to get Nate in the lineup. I know we have 37 games left with 22 at home. But for me the chase is done. It will take a miracle finish for the Team to get to the playoffs and even if they do, B and S have to go.

I really cannot see Carney keeping his job, he does not help his hitters become better. They constantly swing at terrible pitches which may be more of shawon dunston's doing, however, carney needs to step up and teach these hitters the value of looking for you pitch and dunston needs to agree with that. I have also noticed that the hitters do not seem to change their swing. the only player i see do this is kung fu panda, everyone else has the same swing for every pitch. high, low, outside, inside, etc it doesn't seem to matter.
i do agree that flannery deserves to stay because he is a great third base coach.

This is what I don't get. We don't hit home runs. We don't hit for average. We don't draw walks, but we strike out a ton. And its not like we're striking out while trying to hit home runs. We often fail to move runners over and get the critical sac fly. So we can't even do the little things to win ballgames. Except for the occasional pitching collapses, we only need 3-4 runs a game.

The sad thing is that their isnt much hope for next year in my opinion. The Free Agent market is very weak for bats and Sabean's inability to develop hitters has left the team with only 1 positon player (Posey) who can contribute next year.
What to do? First and foremost they need to fire Sabean and hire a smart baseball man. My choices would be Logan White who is asst. GM of the Dodgers or John Barr. I would then let the new GM make the call on whether Bochy should be retained for another year. Bochy does make some moves that are questionable (like pitching Wilson last night after 41 pitches the night before) but he does have a very mediocre team in the WC hunt. He really doesnt deserve to be fired.
As far as the coaches go I would retain them all with the possible exception of Lansford. I think a new hitting coach might help some of the development of the younger hitters.

If Sabean goes I think Bochy will follow suit. A new GM would probably want to bring in his "own" guy esp. to deal with all the young talent SF has.

I remember reading when Bochy was hired that he got more out of his team than any other manager. I think it was based on expectations and actual record. I believe baker was near the bottom. Anyway, it's hard to argue that stat doesn't hold true as Bochy has gotten more out of this team that any of us could imagine.
As for Sabean, Scouts told him to pick Timmy and i assume that is also true about cain, and the rest of our farm system. Sabean has gotten us Garko (unnecessary), Sanchez (over-priced), Renteria (garbage) and the list goes on. I hate to blame Sabean for all the bad ad none of the good but it seems he make horrible MLB decisions and he's interfering with a pretty good scouting department

i really feel sabean is gunshy after that liriano, nathan, bonser for pierzynski trade a few years back. we may have drafted well, but anyone with top 10-15 picks could look good with good scouts.
they think having a veteran presence is always a good thing, so they make sure their veterans are always in the lineup. that mindset is killing the giants. bengie in the 4 spot slows the entire lineup down, winn can't hit, rowand definitely not worth the money the giants are paying him. renteria? come on sabean shoulda stuck with burriss at short atleast he can run.
one thing i noticed with bochy is he doesn't pull his young guys aside and teach them during the games. tracy from colorado does this a lot and i really think it helps his players learn the game and know what is expected of them in certain situations, look what it has done for them.

I don't think that trade is what is making Sabean gunshy. I think it is more likely the failed signings of Benetiz, Alfonso, Durham and Garko.
As someone said, when you pay premium dollars for people that have performed at a mediocre level, you get lousy return for you bucks.

Garko wasnt a signing but your point is well taken. You can add Rowand,Zito,Renteria,Howry to the list.
Reality is that Sabean has been a miserable failure in free agency.

zito has been pitching like his old self this second half. granted, it's not worth his contract because he doesn't do it all season, but give him a break for this second half that he has pitched. aaron rowand is not worth that contract. i said from day 1 when we signed him it was a terrible signing and that we should only expect good defense and not 20 something hrs like he did in philly. howry and renteria this season were also terrible signings i agree i would have rather seen some young guys in the shortstop spot than him.

Zito has pitched great since the break but the signing and contract is still horrible. Sabean is just a really poor GM.
