Giants' marketing dropping the ball?

Pablo is one of the main reasons why I go to the yard these days.
They need to make sure he stays consistent at least for a full season. Not be good for the first half and completely flop the 2nd half. Hopefully he picks it up
We need to get another legit hitter in this lineup. Would help pablo immensely

This. I think he will start batting better as he gets his swing back.
pablo is fine
all of baseball has droped the ball on marketing
The best Marketing strategy is winning baseball games! Teams that winn lots of games will get the fan base excited and thus seats will be filled up.

exactly! the past few yrs i would still watch the giants play but then again wouldve cared less if i missed the gm or decided not to watch them unless timmy pitched. this yr its different, theyre winning (for now) and i enjoy watching lincecum and cain pitch with the hitting of pablo.

Both of these posts define the essence of the Giants problems.

Most of the FANS (those who value winning) and the Customers (those who buy most of the tickets) are almost mutually exclusive groups.

Bonds filled the stadium for 3 years with a losing team that never sniffed the playoffs, which shows that most of the game attendence is based on the entertainment value of the product and not the winning percentage.

They went to see Barry hit historic home runs because they made the games eventful. You knew it because you saw them leave after his last at bat every game.

They had one season where they advanced to championship level, yet sold out regularly regardless of the opponent which clearly isn't the case now.

The team needs customers more than it needs fans because the customers buy the product (tix & concessions) while most of the fans watch the team on TV.

While the viewing numbers increase the revenue generated from advertising every seat sold directly effects the bottom line. Until they have an attraction that people will again pay to see live, rather than watch on TV, they will have trouble raising the revenue needed to remain competitive.

At it's height the theam had 28,000 seats sold to season holders and now they have about 18,000.

Partly due to economics but mostly due to the fact that the product is not worth the price they charge. Plus the fact that the teams fan base although strong and loyal don't consume enough of the actual product.
the Giants marketing is all talk, no walk. always been that way.

theyre so obsessed with paying off the stadium debt, and filling seats, they sign players for that purpose rather than winning.

look at Barry Zito. you really think they thought Zito would be worth Johan Santana money? not a chance. but they thought "hey, a former CY winner who already has a huge following in the bay area, as well as nationally" and they figured he would sell out games every 5th day.

i have no idea why the Giants absolutely refuse to sign a bat. theyve needed a bat since Kent left, and NEVER once got one. they havent even been close. theyve balked at guys like Vlad, Soriano, Cabrera, etc. i just wonder what in the world has caused them to desperately need a bat for 7 years now, and not make a deal or signing.

instead its guy like Michael Tucker, Ryan Klesko, Jose Castillo, Rich Aurilia, Steve Finley, Dave Roberts, etc.

the best theyve ever done at it is Moises Alou for crying out loud. and he didnt even play a full season, and was 100 years old when we got him.
sanchez is getting traded here sooonnn
